Yes you can be poor and have white privilege. I come from a similar background (minus the addiction) and empathize really strongly with the frustrations and anger that being poor and hopeless creates. Being shit on by the rich, however, doesn’t make us immune to shitting on people of color, unfortunately.

You aren’t me, so I’m going to speak in the first person here: I feel helpless and angry when rich people act like there isn’t a benefit for them in keeping poor people poor. I imagine that to be a fraction of how people of color feel about white people who think they don’t benefit from white privilege.
