If someone says to you, “This issue does not and will not ever directly affect you, so you can’t ever know what it’s like, so I don’t want to talk to you about it and shut up” Maybe you should shut up. Maybe even listen for a little while. The whole, “If you won’t discuss this with me (read: If you won’t find data to immediately counter everything I say), then how will I learn?” argument is one of entitlement. Not every uterus owner wants to teach you about abortion or feminism. Not ever person of color wants to teach you about racism and privilege. They don’t have to. There is no shortage of information on controversial topics on the internet. There’s no reason you can’t go out there and learn this shit for yourself. You aren’t entitled to give your shitty little opinion in every possible forum on any given topic.
Stop and think about why someone is refusing to engage you in a conversation before complaining that you’re being unfairly removed from it.
