1st part sums up why trying to have a discussion about privilege is exhausting. Cannot imagine the 1000x hell that WoC deal with.
I appreciate the sentiment, and the analysis of rape culture is good, but one thing:
Men are HALF of rape victims and women perpetuate TWO-FIFTHS of rapes. Pretending these things are not true, that forced envelopment isn’t rape, that just because men are punished if they do speak out about their experiences without the kind of solidarity I enjoy when I talk about my experiences as a survivor of sexual assault, they are somehow not raped or not raped as badly, is PERPETUATING RAPE CULTURE. It just is.
Could I ask about the sources of your male rape figures? I’ve found numbers that suggest 8-10%, and while obviously that’s underreported, female rape cases also have underreport rates estimated as high as 75%. I found a source that suggests that sexual assault for males is 3 in 20 which is about comparable with the 1 in 6 rapes of women, but includes all sexual assault.
GOP Rep. Tells Constituent Who Asks About Raising The Minimum Wage To ‘Get A Job’
CONSTITUENT: Hi, I’m (inaudible) how are you? Happy Fourth of July. Jesse Jackson, Jr. is passing a bill around to increase the minimum wage to 10 bucks and hour. Do you support that?
YOUNG: Probably not.
CONSTITUENT: 10 bucks, that would give us a living wage.
YOUNG: How about getting a job?
CONSTITUENT: I do have one.
YOUNG: Well, then why do you want that benefit? Get a job.
Conservative compassion. The only reason they’re trying to raise the minimum wage is so it matches the buying power it had when the federal minimum wage was enacted in 1968 - in other words, they’re just adjusting for inflation. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: all politicians should be on minimum wage.

I literally can’t comprehend how out of touch Rep Young must be that he seems to think minimum wage = welfare.

The Black Kids Table is seeking a graphic designer.
The Black Kids Table is an upcoming online zine/periodical that seeks to cover entertainment, news, politics, and all aspects of pop culture through the lens of the young, hip, black kids who will one day be the future technological, intellectual, and artistic leaders of this country. We will also promote the projects and accomplishments of this very gifted generation of black Americans.
We are currently seeking a graphic designer to create logos and other images to be used in promotional and fundraising efforts over the next few months leading up to our launch. The artist chosen will receive:
-Negotiable compensation upon the successful completion of the fundraising phase.
-Preferential consideration in a staff graphic design contributor to be filled during the launch phase.
-The ability to showcase your work to an estimated 10,000-25,000 people during the fundraising and promotional phases.
